Artist portraits & process in her creative studio
This is Sonya Markova — an artist based in Lisbon.
One day she invited me into her home studio to photograph a series of portraits for her social media. But once I stepped inside, it became more than just portraits. I found myself completely drawn into her world — colors, textures, sketches, paintings, small details scattered across the space. Everything felt alive and in process.
In a short time, I tried to hold as much of it as possible: portraits, fragments, hands at work, moments of concentration, traces of paint, the rhythm of creating.
This is both a portrait session and a quiet observation of the creative process — a glimpse into what happens inside an artist’s studio.
At the end, I picked up my film camera and made a few frames on film — as a way to slow down and stay a little longer in that atmosphere.
